Description

Heat Molding

Boasting unparalleled heat moldable design, all of Bont’s shoes feature a proprietary resin. It’s taken them 36 years of research, development and tweaks to create and perfect their resin to make an extremely stiff shoe that becomes pliable at relatively low temperatures. Where as many brands offering heat molding can only do so in certain areas, a Bont shoe is moldable across the entire chassis. With great anatomical design out of the box, the ability to fine tune your Bont shoe will give you an extremely customized fit for total comfort. View the video tab for instructions on how to heat mold your Bont shoes at home.

Medial Longitude Arch Support

Bont adds structural medial longitudinal arch support in all of their models to prevent over pronation. Bont believe over pronation is a big cause of knee injuries as the incorrect tracking of knees while in the riding position can cause rotation of the tibia and femur. This can also cause the pelvis to tilt, resulting in lower back strain. By adding extra support in this key area, they make shoes that allow you to perform longer, with less risk of injury.

Anatomical Foot Shape

Bont offers a unique foot shape on their shoes. Whereas nearly all cycling shoe companies make their footwear to a "dress shoe" shape which looks great, Bont believes this shape is too restrictive on the metatarsals. By crafting their shoes to allow more breathing room for your forefoot and toes, Bont aim to reduce "hot foot" and allow your foot to function in the most efficient and anatomically correct position. This technology allows your pedaling force to spread across a greater surface area, creating better impact and fantastic performance.

Anatomical Heel Cup

To increase stability during the pull through stage of pedaling, Bont have added an anatomically shaped heel cup. Without the need for over-tightening straps/laces or mechanical operation, you gain stabilization resulting in increased comfort and proper blood circulation.

Lateral Forefoot Support

To maintain a neutral position of the forefoot and prevent common issues that arise from over pronation and supination, Bont offers shoes with Lateral Forefoot Support. With a reduced risk of incorrect knee tracking and hip/lower back ache due to the correct positioning this enhancement encourages, you can ride for longer in confidence.

Bont Size Chart To find your size, place a tape measure and piece of paper on a apartment surface up against a wall. With your heel approximately 1mm away from the wall, stand on the tape measure, slowly roll your weight forward and onto the forefoot while keeping your heel firmly connected to the floor. Look down and take the measurement from the wall to your longest toe. Record the length. With your foot still in place, use a straight edge in a vertical position and place it up against the widest part of both sides of the foot. Measure the width across the widest part of your foot and record the number in millimeters. Repeat this step for both feet.

If you're unable to do this yourself, have someone take the measurements while you focus on keeping the entire foot connected to the ground at all times.

Once the measurements have been taken, first use the horizontal MM scale on the size chart to find your size (length). The MM sizes on the chart are the exact length of the last that Bont uses to build the shoes. If you find that your MM size is exactly the same as a value on the size chart, you may want to select one size bigger to give your toes some room. For example, you measure your feet and the length of your left and right feet are 278mm and 280mm respectively. If you were browsing for a Helix, Riot+ Series, Vaypor S or other models from the top line size chart you would be exactly size 44.5. However, as stated, this is the exact length of the shoe last and unless you like your shoes to be very tight, you may wish to add an additional 5-8mm onto your measurements to account for toe room and sock thickness. This will result in the most appropriate size. In this case, you would select a size 45.

Following the selection of size (length), move downward to select the most appropriate width. Bont recommends adding 1mm to find the most appropriate width. For example, you are looking at a Vaypor S and have determined your best shoe size is 45 – accounting for the additional length added to your foot measurements. Your widths are 105mm and 107mm respectively and so, with an additional 1mm added, you would still fit within the Standard Fit. If your feet measured narrowed than 100mm or wider than 110mm, you would consider Narrow Fit or Wide Fit.

Magazine Reviews

Review from Cycling Weekly

I’ve always been a big fan of Bont shoes starting with the harsh and very stiff Vaypor to eventually testing and enjoying its high-end update the Vaypor S. However, I haven’t taken much interest in its lower level shoe the Bont Riot +, well until now. At £149.99 the entry level claim from Bont will have many shouting ‘that’s not entry level money’, although, to be fair to Bont and its Riot + road cycling shoes, getting as much technology and performance at that price point, which does rival shoes at much higher price points is no easy task. I’ve never needed to heat mould my Bont shoes, I’ve been very happy with them straight out of the box and that continues with the Bont Riot +’s. Though, if you do find something amiss you can heat mould these as many time as you like. It is more fine tuning than transforming the shoe’s fit, however. The trickle down effect of technology is evident, not only do the Bont Riot +’s do away with the ratchet system for a Boa tightening system – that allows for a better overall secure fit – it also sees it incorporate a ‘power transfer platform and anatomical shaping with competition grade materials’. The sole is a mixture of carbon and fibreglass which offers up a massive amount of stiffness that which can match high end full carbon models. Better still compared with the original Vapor shoes they allow for a little more comfort and a little less overall stiffness meaning more feet should suit these booties. Sticking with the sole – that base does scratch quiet easily, which is annoying and those scratches really do show. My only other small gripe is that the material on the top of the shoe can bunch if not set right.
