Identical in alloy and construction to Thomson's Downhill bar, the new Trail bar is 750mm wide with 12mm of rise, 6° of backsweep and 4° of upsweep. The Trail bar gives you a light aluminum all-around bar for your Mountain Bike.
The clamping area is 50mm allowing a different bend profile for a more compliant ride. Thomson bars are produced by advanced Hydraulic Press Forming to avoid the need for hand grinding. Almost all other bars are manually bent and bends are ground to appear smooth. Hydraulic Press Forming ensures very consistent wall thickness and close tolerances, especially in tapered sections. This keeps weight low and fatigue life high.
Mountain bike or apartment handlebars can be made from carbon or alloy and feature various clamp sizes and bends. Oversized mtb bars have a 31.8mm clamp area, while standard bars have 25.4mm. Cross country bars are usually relatively straight, but can feature different rises which bring the grips and levers higher up, these are known as riser bars and come in low, medium and high riser bar formats. Downhill bars tend to be made of a stiffer more durable material, so are stronger and slightly heavier than a XC bar.
